Error estimates for 3-d narrow finite elements

چکیده
We obtain error estimates for finite element approximations of the lowest degree valid uniformly for a class of three-dimensional narrow elements. First, for the Lagrange interpolation we prove optimal error estimates, both in order and regularity, in Lp for p > 2. For p = 2 it is known that this result is not true. Applying extrapolation results we obtain an optimal order error estimate for functions sligthly more regular than H2. These results are valid both for tetrahedral and rectangular elements. Second, for the case of rectangular elements, we obtain optimal, in order and regularity, error estimates for an average interpolation valid for functions in W 1+s,p with 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞ and 0 ≤ s ≤ 1.

A posteriori $ L^2(L^2)$-error estimates with the new version of streamline diffusion method for the wave equation
In this article, we study the new streamline diffusion finite element for treating the linear second order hyperbolic initial-boundary value problem. We prove a posteriori $ L^2(L^2)$ and error estimates for this method under minimal regularity hypothesis. Test problem of an application of the wave equation in the laser is presented to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the method.
متن کاملOptimal order finite element approximation for a hyperbolic integro-differential equation
Semidiscrete finite element approximation of a hyperbolic type integro-differential equation is studied. The model problem is treated as the wave equation which is perturbed with a memory term. Stability estimates are obtained for a slightly more general problem. These, based on energy method, are used to prove optimal order a priori error estimates.
متن کاملNumerical Analysis and Scientific Computing Preprint Seria A narrow-band unfitted finite element method for elliptic PDEs posed on surfaces
The paper studies a method for solving elliptic partial differential equations posed on hypersurfaces in RN , N = 2, 3. The method allows a surface to be given implicitly as a zero level of a level set function. A surface equation is extended to a narrow-band neighborhood of the surface. The resulting extended equation is a non-degenerate PDE and it is solved on a bulk mesh that is unaligned to...
متن کاملEquivalent a posteriori error estimates for spectral element solutions of constrained optimal control problem in one dimension
In this paper, we study spectral element approximation for a constrained optimal control problem in one dimension. The equivalent a posteriori error estimators are derived for the control, the state and the adjoint state approximation. Such estimators can be used to construct adaptive spectral elements for the control problems.
متن کاملEfficiency of Anti-Hourglassing Approaches in Finite Element Method (TECHNICAL NOTE)
one of the simplest numerical integration method which provides a large saving in computational efforts, is the well known one-point Gauss quadrature which is widely used for 4 nodes quadrilateral elements. On the other hand, the biggest disadvantage to one-point integration is the need to control the zero energy modes, called hourglassing modes, which arise. The efficiency of four different an...
